Due to fact that the weather conditions from Daytona are approaching McIntosh, and after speaking with Jim Yancy, Marion County's Superintendent, I have decided to cancel classes at the McIntosh Area School for tomorrow, Friday, August 22, 2008. The issue of safety must always come first. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Picture day that was scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2008 will be rescheduled in the very near future. Parents will be notified in advance of the date. The make-up days are November 26, 2008, December 19, 2008 and June 4, 2009. Have a safe day and a safe weekend.

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
The McIntosh Area School promotes inquisitive, knowledgeable and caring learners aware of their community and their world. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school, MAS uses the PYP (Primary Years Program) curriculum also offering Physical Education and an Arts Program embedded in the curriculum. Teachers are Highly Qualified by the State of Florida and focus on education, rather than testing. The campus is equipped with five classrooms, computer labs, a library, and the Blue Wave after school program room. The Governing Board of Directors and the Parent Group provide strong community ties.

~Welcome~ Our vision is to create a better world through education
The McIntosh Area School (MAS) is a Community Public Charter School in the tranquil Marion County, Florida, Victorian town of McIntosh on US 441 between Ocala and Gainesville. If you live in our area and you have a student in one of the elementary grades, please consider enrolling your child.
In August 2003, MAS opened its doors on the original McIntosh School site. The principal rang the old-fashioned school bell to call to class 17 kindergarteners and first graders just as the school marm might have done in 1890. Since 2003, the school has grown into a K through 5 elementary school. In May 2008, 104 students are enrolled and the school is hosting its first fifth grade class graduation.

Historical Research - A Community School of Social Action

In 1944, Clara M Olson completed an informal case study of the McIntosh Elementary School. The study was conducted under the auspices of the University of Florida Project in Applied Economics, Florida Curriculum Laboratory, College of Education, Gainesville, Florida and the publication was made possible by a grant from The Alfred P Sloan Foundation, Inc.
